Sunrise Equine History

1995

The clinic was started near Sunrise Township as a solo practice run out of the home by founding veterinarian Dr. Jeske Noordergraaf. It served Minnesota clients in a 30 mile radius.

2002

The office was built at the current location to accommodate associates and support staff.

2006

  • The barn was built for haul in procedures.
  • Dr. Kirsten Frederickson started at Sunrise Equine.

2012

Sunrise Equine was purchased by current owner, Dr. Kirsten Frederickson and her husband Jeremy.

2013

  • Added shockwave therapy to treat musculoskeletal pain, improve healing with tendon/ ligament injuries, and to use for improve healing of wounds and for respiratory cases.
  • Added in house chemistry machine to provide timely diagnostics for clients
  • Converted to digital medical record system to improve efficiency, accuracy, and communication in patient care.

2014

  • Expanded our services to include chiropractic care, offering a non invasive option to help improve mobility, comfort, and overall performance in our patients.
  • Desirae Knight joint the Sunrise Equine team.

2015

  • We introduced musculoskeletal ultrasound, allowing our doctors to diagnose soft tissue injures more accurately and guide treatments more effectively
  • Our doctors became licensed in Wisconsin expanding our ability to provide care and service more clients across state lines

2016

Sunrise acquired the Equine portion of Grantsburg Animal Hospital from Dr. Greg Palmquist, started serving a 60-mile radius, and adding Wisconsin clients.

  • We added a 3 meter gastroscope allowing our doctors to better diagnose and treat stomach ulcers in horses.
  • We introduced routine care days allowing us to schedule multiple farms in the same area making care more efficient while offering clients a discounts on the farm call.
  • Elizabeth Robbins and Mackenzie Hermanson joined the Sunrise Equine team.

2018

Angie Fisk joined the Sunrise Equine team.

2019

Dr. Jill Deets joined the Sunrise Equine team.

2020

  • Dr. Kate O'Connor and Jamie Levercom joined the Sunrise Equine team.

2021

  • We began offering acupuncture, providing an additional integrative therapy option to support pain management, recovery, and overall wellness.
  • We added a Tonovet tonometer to enhance our ophthalmic exams, allowing for quick and accurate measurements of eye pressure.
  • Dr. Kate expanded our practice to include small ruminant services, offering medical care for sheep, goats, llamas, and alpacas.

2022

  • We added a 1 meter endoscope to enhance upper airway diagnostics, allowing our doctors to better evaluate nasal passages and the upper respiratory tract.
  • Dr. Kate launched North Star Days to expand access to care and better serve our clients in northern regions.
  • Anna Wessel joined the Sunrise Equine team.

2023

  • Dr. Katie Luoma joined the Sunrise Equine team.
  • We added Pro-Stride and Restigen PRP systems to expand our sports medicine services, allowing us to offer advanced regenerative therapies for joint and soft tissue injures.

2024

  • We expanded our parking lot to create more space for hauling, making it easier and safer for clients to bring patients to the clinic for care.
  • Bailey Schultz joined the Sunrise Equine team.

2025

  • Dr. Kelly Harrington joined the Sunrise Equine team.
  • We built holding pens at the clinic to safely house patients for scheduled care and to support our breeding package services.

2026

Rae Faste joined the Sunrise Equine Team.
