Dr. Kirsten Frederickson
Veterinarian/Owner
After graduating from the U of MN in 2006 she became an associate at Sunrise Equine. She purchased the practice in 2012. She takes a special interest in chiropractic, lameness and dentistry. In her spare time she enjoys riding her horse Dolly, going to the gym, spending time at the cabin with her husband Jeremy, and getting together with family.

Dr. Jill Deets
Veterinarian
Dr. Jill graduated from the University of Minnesota – College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 where she pursued an equine medicine track. She then completed a yearlong internship at the Stillwater Equine Clinic in Stillwater, MN. After her internship, she joined an equine practice as an associate practitioner in northern New Jersey for 1.5 years before returning to her home state of Minnesota to join the team at Sunrise Equine in February 2019. Throughout her experiences, Dr. Jill has developed special interests in internal medicine and ophthalmology. She attended the Chi University for acupuncture in 2021 and is now certified in that as well. In her spare time, Dr. Jill enjoys spending time with family and friends, cuddling her cat, learning about history, reading, running, and traveling when she can.

Dr. Kate O’Conor
Veterinarian
Dr. Kate joined the Sunrise Equine team in October of 2020. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2010 and completed an internship and residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota as well. She went on to also complete a master’s degree focused on llamas and alpacas. She has developed special interests with infectious diseases, gastrointestinal problems, such as chronic diarrhea, ophthalmology, and metabolic disorders. Dr. Kate grew up riding in a variety of English disciplines, and is again looking forward to getting back into it now that she has moved out of the city. She lives in Hinckley with her son and their 6 sheep, 3 yaks and babies on the way. Together they enjoy hiking, riding bike, and are currently working on training their sheep named Turkey to carry a pack!

Dr. Katie Luoma
Veterinarian
Dr. Katie joined Sunrise Equine in March of 2023. She graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2022 and worked as an associate veterinarian for another practice prior to joining the Sunrise team. Dr. Katie enjoys all aspects of equine practice, with particular interests in equine sports medicine, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. She completed advanced training in veterinary acupuncture through CuraCore Vet in Fort Collins, Colorado, and chiropractic care through Options for Animals in Wellsville, Kansas, and is certified by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA). Outside of work, Dr. Katie enjoys gardening, fishing and hiking with her husband, spending time with their dogs, and riding her horse. She rides western and enjoys showing in pleasure events when time allows. During her undergraduate years, she competed on an IHSA/NCAA equestrian team in reining and western horsemanship.

Dr. Kelly Harrington
Veterinarian
Dr. Kelly completed her undergraduate education at UW Madison. During her undergraduate studies she completed the Kentucky Equine Management Internship in Lexington, Ky on a broodmare farm. After her undergraduate studies she worked in Lexington and Scone Australia as a veterinary technician gaining more hospital experience, especially with foals. She graduated from vet school in 2024 from Ross University. She then completed an internship at Great Lakes Equine, before joining the Sunrise team in June of 2025. She enjoys the variety of equine general practice, especially dentistry and reproduction. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, traveling, and hanging out with her dog Rocket.

Desirae
Office Manager
Desirae started with Sunrise Equine in July 2014 as a full time receptionist. She graduated in 2007 with an AAS degree. Both her love for animals and opportunity landed her here at Sunrise Equine. Outside of work she keeps busy with her 4 kids, 2 dogs, cat, and chickens. When she has any down time her favorite things to do are fishing, bird watching, and traveling. If you stop in to the office you will likely meet one of her dogs, Brinley (Lapponian Herder), who graciously accepts all treats!

Mackenzie
Receptionist/Veterinary Assistant
Mackenzie started with Sunrise Equine in June 2016 as a part time receptionist. She has always had a passion for animals, especially horses, so when the opportunity came up it was a no-brainer! She is cross trained as an assistant so you may see her out and about from time to time. In January 2025, she became certified with the USDA to run our in house Coggins Testing. In her free time you can find her trail riding with her 2 geldings and enjoying nature or relaxing at home with her cats.

Elizabeth
Veterinary Assistant
Elizabeth started working with Sunrise Equine as an assistant in March 2016 but has been cleaning the barn and stalls at the clinic since 2012. She has been around horses all of her life and has several of her own. She attended the MN horse training academy and does a little training on the side.

Angie
Veterinary Assistant
Angie started working for Sunrise Equine as a veterinary assistant in March 2018. In her spare time she enjoys reading, crafting, driving her pony Darcy, dog training with her Chihuahua mix Penny and pampering her cats. She is very active in her church community and enjoys baking goodies for the team.

Jamie
Veterinary Assistant
Jamie started with Sunrise Equine in December 2020. She started out by cleaning the clinic and then moved into an assistant role. Jamie enjoys riding horses, fishing, hunting with her 2 German shorthairs, spending time with family at the cabin, and playing softball. In November 2023, she completed her farrier coursework at the Minnesota School of Horse Shoeing. Currently, Jamie is working as a part time farrier where she does corrective shoeing and works with many different times of ailments along with normal trimming. Her favorite animals to work on are donkeys and miniature horses.

Anna
Veterinary Assistant
Anna started with Sunrise Equine as a veterinary assistant in September of 2022. In her free time she loves to show her paint horse “Imagine Dragons” at APHA breed shows. Along with being actively involved with APHA, she also enjoys showing at local WSCA shows and is a 4H volunteer for the horse project. She is aspiring to become an equine vet herself and is currently getting her undergrad to achieve her dreams.

Bailey
Receptionist/Veterinary Assistant
Bailey started as a seasonal vet assistant in 2024 and loved it so much she came back in 2025 to help out in the clinic as both a receptionist and an assistant. In her free time she loves fishing, hunting, horseback riding, anything outdoors and spending time with her dogs! Her and her husband love spending nights sitting by the fire at their lake home.
