Weather Limitations
During certain weather conditions, some limitations may affect the services we can safely provide:
-
Dental procedures, sheath cleaning, and castrations cannot be performed below freezing or during extreme weather conditions. These procedures require the use of water, sedation, and specialized equipment that cannot safely function in freezing temperatures. Additionally, recovery from sedation can be delayed when temperatures are extremely warm.
-
An enclosed barn or shelter is strongly recommended for all appointments. A protected environment helps keep horses calm, staff safe, and equipment functional. If no suitable shelter is available, some procedures may need to be postponed until conditions improve.
How to Schedule
1. Determine Your Zone
Locate your city—or the nearest city to your address—to identify which zone you fall into.
2. Select an Available Date
-
Choose one of the Routine Care Day dates assigned to your zone, then call our office to schedule.
-
We ask that you remain flexible with appointment timing. Specific times cannot be guaranteed, as routes are organized by location.
-
Please schedule at least one week in advance. Priority is given in the order calls are received.
3. Appointment Notifications
-
You will receive a call the day before your appointment with an estimated two-hour arrival window.
-
On the day of your appointment, we will call again when the doctor is en route. Please have your horse(s) caught and ready upon the doctor’s arrival.
4. Participation Requirements
-
To offer the discounted rate, we require a minimum of two appointments in the same area on a Routine Care Day.
-
If only one client is scheduled for that location on your selected date, you may choose to:
- Keep your appointment at the standard farm call fee, or
- Reschedule to a future Routine Care Day once multiple appointments in your area are confirmed.
Who Routine Care Days Are For
-
Routine Care Days are designed for clients with a small number of horses who wish to save on farm call fees without hauling their animals.
-
If you have 10 or more horses, please contact us to schedule a Barn Day, which offers a separate discount and the opportunity to request a specific doctor.
-
If the available Routine Care Day dates do not fit your schedule—or if you require additional services—you may book a standard appointment at any time.
-
Clients who coordinate appointments with neighbors may also qualify for discounted farm calls.

Frequently Asked Questions About Routine Care Days
What are Routine Care Days?
Routine Care Days are designated dates throughout the year when Sunrise Equine offers half-price farm calls for routine and preventive veterinary services. These appointments are organized by geographic zones to make veterinary care more convenient and affordable for horse owners.
What services are included during Routine Care Days?
Routine Care Days are intended for preventive and routine veterinary services such as wellness exams, dental exams and power floats, vaccinations, Coggins testing, health certificates, sheath cleanings, recheck exams, fecal egg counts, deworming, castrations, and euthanasia.
Can I request a specific veterinarian for a Routine Care Day appointment?
No. Because Routine Care Days are scheduled to optimize travel routes and efficiency, specific veterinarian requests cannot be accommodated for discounted appointments.
How do I schedule a Routine Care Day appointment?
First, determine which geographic zone your location falls under. Then choose one of the available Routine Care Day dates for your zone and call the clinic to schedule. Appointments should be booked at least one week in advance, and you will receive notification the day before your visit with an estimated arrival window.
Are there any requirements to qualify for the discounted farm call?
Yes. To offer the discounted rate, at least two appointments must be scheduled in the same area on that Routine Care Day. If only one client is scheduled, you may either keep the appointment at the standard farm call fee or reschedule to a future Routine Care Day when additional appointments are confirmed.
